DESMOND McRORY
Desmond is an award-winning painter. He is also a sculptor and printmaker.
His paintings are varied in style, but he finds his deepest inspiration from 19th-century American tonalist painters like Charles Warren Eaton and from the English “proto-impressionist” J.M.W Turner. He finds that the loose expression of form and value expresses the mystical quality that can be found in nature. He treats his subject matter with soft, blended brushwork or vibrant swatches of color. In 2014, his” Fog on Lower Creek” was chosen by Moravian University’s Payne Gallery to become part of their permanent collection.
His bronze sculptures are created using the lost wax method, an ancient technique that uses a wax version of the sculpture that is “lost” (melted away) in the creation of a hollow ceramic shell that receives the molten bronze. His subjects include animals, religious figures, mythic figures from antiquity, and figures from contemporary culture.
His intaglio prints use traditional etching and aquatint technique. His subjects include birds, human figures, and figures from legend.
